3-Day Capoeira Encounter

2023 marks 20 years since CapoeiraDC was established as a non-profit organization here in Washington, DC by Contra Mestre Morcego and Professora Borboleta, with six others. Since our founding, we have grown to empower thousands of youth, adults, and families across the District with capoeira's art form of liberation.

We are holding our biggest Axé Fest to celebrate our 20 years, including a three-day encounter with workshops and LOTS of roda.

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art developed by African warriors enslaved in Brazil and used to fight for their freedom, preserving their lives and culture. Today, we practice, preserve, and promote this liberating art form, empowering our community to grow stronger together.
